Sweden (Stockholm)
Places visited: Stockholm
Dates: August 2019 (for 4 days)
General tips:
(1) Stockholm is basically a conglomerate of islands (never knew about this before).
(2) The city is actually super pretty.
(3) Lots of Nordic/Viking related stuff to do/see in the city.
(4) Clothes/jewels shopping is very expensive. Eating outside is pricey too.
(5) The Swedish language is insanely difficult, but everyone knows English.
(6) Getting around with public transportation is convenient.
(7) Swedish jewelry brand (edblab) is beautiful.
(8) Home of Ikea, H&M - Nordic furniture is simple and beautiful.
Things to do:
(1) Vete-Katten has the best princess cake (its green in color on the outside). Go here for fika (coffee breaks) and eat a lot of the princess cake. You will love it.
(2) Definitely see the Vasa museum. It was definitely better than I expected it to be. The museum is basically about one giant ship that sank on its maiden voyage. Take the guided tour of the ship - the history and the reasons behind its sinking are very interesting.
(3) The Blue hall and Golden hall (in the City Hall) are places that definitely need to be seen. The Blue hall is where the Nobel is where the Nobel Banquet is held (its pretty small small) and the Golden Hall is just so pretty - has many many tiny gold plated glass pieces.
(4) Walk through Gamla Stan for old town charm.
(5) View of the city from nearby hill top is amazing.
(6) The public library is supposed to be nice. We didn't go to it though (no time).
Stay:
(1) AirBnb in the city center - the quality was superb.
(2) Food: We cooked most dinners in the Airbnb using groceries we bought from nearby supermarkets. Stockholm produce is cheap and eating outside is expensive. So, plan to cook at least a few meals yourself if traveling on a budget.
