Estonia (Tallinn)
Places visited: Tallinn
Dates visited: August 2019 for 2 days.
General tips:
1.We only visited old town Tallinn. It's very commercial. Most building's outsides have the old medieval feel to them (mostly refurbished exteriors) but the inside of the buildings are very updated with cafes, souvenir shops etc.
2.It is a bit cheaper than neighboring countries. So, if you go from Finland for example you'll feel everything is a bit cheaper.
3.It felt very touristy.
4. The cobblestone streets are actually not very stroller friendly and there's a lot of walking to do. So, overall I would say if you want to fully explore Old town Tallinn, do it before you have kids/leave the kids at home or be prepared to do a lot of kid-lifting.
How to get there:
Do a 1-2 day trip from Finland or other neighboring countries. Take the ferry - it's very convenient. You can purchase the tickets at the ferry station on the day of. Tip: Ferry's leave on time and you need to be there EARLY (atleast an hour before the departure time) or you will miss the ferry.
Things to do:
1. The old walls with the towers are pretty cool to look at. Do a walking tour.
2. The churchs/castles etc. are nice to see.
3. The best part however is the food. Surprisingly, there are lots of good lunch/dinner places in Old Town Tallinn. I highly recommend Rataskaevu16 and it's sister restaurant. There can be long wait times at Rataskaevu16. If there is, head to it's sister restaurant (Vaike Rataskaevu 16) - they have the same stuff. We loved it so much we went here twice in our 2 day trip.
