France (Paris)

Places visited: Paris
Time: July 2012 for about 4 days.

Top things:
(1) Hotel rooms are so small.
(2) Taxis are cheap. Take them.
(3) Vegetarian food is hard to find.
(4) People are extremely friendly. Strangers walked with us when we asked for directions, and they carried our luggage for us.

Ok, we visited Paris 7 years ago, so my memory is a bit faded. But, here goes.

Paris is the first European city we visited. When I saw the cobblestone roads, my heart skipped a beat.

It was quite chilly around the time we traveled. The weather changed quickly throughout the day and I remember regretting not wearing enough layers.

Yes, what you've heard and read about this city is true. Paris is one of the prettiest places in the world, and my husband and I cannot wait to re-visit. Now that we have that out of the way, let's talk about other stuff.

The Louvre. My God! What a fantastic museum. I did not even know that I liked museums till I visited this one. It's enormous. You can spend a week in it and not completely cover it. There are a couple of red rooms (I think that's what they are called?), that have huge paintings, many of which you've probably heard of. Walking through the red rooms is a humbling experience.

Of course, see all the tourist attractions like the Arc de triomphe, Eiffle tower, Cathedrale Notre-Dame, Luxemborg gardens. They will have long queue waiting times, but they all deserve your time and are underhyped.

If this is your first trip to Paris, spend all your time on the attractions. This is the only city (I've visited so far) where I felt the attractions NEED to be visited. In your next trips to this city, you may spend time exploring smaller neighborhoods - doesn't matter. The first time you visit Paris is special!

If you are a vegetarian, try the French onion soup. That's pretty much the only thing (apart from Cheese pizza), you'll get in Paris anyway.
